Animal Handler/Dog Trainer

A new and exciting position working alongside & supporting the onsite kennel/cattery team with a hands-on approach. Providing training and professional guidance to the team and being responsible for enforcing the welfare & training needs of all animals in the centres care (Boarding & rescue).

Dog Training -providing one to one & building up to group sessions for external clients

Supporting the site management team with guidance & input, site standards, training & welfare

Training staff members in all departments on Animal behaviour & welfare

Motivating team members to promote high welfare standards

Monitoring best animal handling techniques

Ensuring enrichment needs throughout the centre are being met

Ensuring company behaviour & welfare policies are followed

Ensuring policies and procedures from the Association of dogs and cats’ home are met

Assisting the rescue team with Assessments

Socializing rescue dogs together

Assisting with volunteer training and requirements

Creating and carrying out training programmes

Offering support & behaviour advice to rescue clients

Transportation of Boarding & rescue animals when required

Helping develop and maintain excellent working relationships with external agencies and other charities;

Representing the company at internal & external meetings when required

Element of Evening checking of the health & welfare of the boarding centre animals

Updating social media

Requirements;

A positive can-do attitude and enthusiastic team player

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Experience running dog training classes/one to one sessions

Dog training qualification is desirable

An animal behaviour or welfare qualification, or evidence of working at an equivalent level

Experience of working in a kennel/rehoming/welfare environment preferable but not essential

Passionate in improving animal welfare needs

A good understanding of the importance of great customer service, ideally with experience of providing excellent customer care

Excellent Administrative skills including use of Microsoft Office

A Full, clean manual UK driving license and confident driving a variety of vehicles

A reasonable level of fitness, stamina and mobility is required to complete the varied physical demands of the role

Emotional resilience to manage the potentially emotional demands of the role

Hours; 40 per week

Shift pattern; Monday – Friday including 1 in every 4 weekends

Rehoming Office Coordinator

To be responsible for matching rescue animals with foster and adoptive homes in an efficient manner.

To keep in line with the welfare’s strategy.

To ensure animals receive the necessary care and medical treatment required.

Main responsibilities

Always ensuring the smooth & efficient running of the office and diary

Screening potential adopters, arranging home visits & providing breed information in accordance with procedures

Assigning various administrative tasks to office assistants

Responding to phone, email, social media inquiries

Evaluating animals whilst keeping accurate records

Liaise with local RSPCA branches and establishments regarding the transport and intake of animals and their care and health

Arranging veterinary appointments

Engaging customers in a polite & professional manner

Overseeing training and production of office assistants

Always maintaining the tidiness & cleanliness of office

Delegating tasks to office assistants & monitoring progress

Communication with all potential adopters

Person Specification

Essential Education:

  • General education including English, both written and oral and mathematics
  • Animal Care/Welfare/Behaviour Qualification

Experience of:

  • Practical experience of handling and rehoming dogs/cats in a working environment
  • Experience of providing excellent customer service

Skills and competencies:

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Familiarity with animal health and welfare issues.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer literate including use of Microsoft, and similar platforms
  • The ability to work under pressure
