An exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to work within a busy boarding and rehoming centre. A rewarding hands on role supervising the kennel and cattery team to ensure all animal health and welfare needs are met.

Animal Site Supervisor

Assisting Managers and Coordinators to ensure the smooth day to day running of the site

Ensuring the site is always clean and tidy- reinforcing this daily

Recording and reporting the daily going on to the site Manager

Ensuring policies and procedures regarding the health and care of the animals and cleanliness of the site are followed by the site team

Delegating tasks and monitoring progress and completion

Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching where required

Organizing workflow and ensuring all employees understand their duties and delegated tasks

Setting goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with the company’s plans and vision

Staff training and development

Leading and motivating the team

Cleaning Kennels and pens to the required standard

Preparing and delivering animal feeds

Administrating medication where required

Performing daily animal health checks

Monitoring and observing animals

Providing socialisation and enrichment to animals

Ensuring animal welfare needs are met

Skills Required;

Great Passion for animal welfare

A minimum of a level 2 Animal care/Welfare qualification is required

A minimum of 1 years Professional experience in an animal care/rescue role

A minimum of 1 years experience in a Team leading/Coaching role

Confidence in animal handling, in particular dogs & cats

Confidence in decision making

Excellent communication & organization skills (Written and Verbal)

Excellent customer service skills

Hours;

8am -5pm

40 per week

Alternate weekends (Flexibility with weekends can be discussed at interview stage)

Salary;

Staring salary of £25,000 (Dependant on experience)

Animal Care Assistant (Welfare)

Responsibilities;

– Day to day care of animals on site including dogs, cats, small animals & exotics, cleaning of accommodation, grooming, feeding, exercise, and administering medication if required.

– Ensuring animal welfare needs are met on a daily basis

– Ensuring animals receive appropriate enrichment for their specific needs.

– Exercising dogs via walking & use of outside exercise areas.

– Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness & hygiene on site, to the animal accommodation, food preparation, laundry, store areas, staff & volunteer facilities and ensure buildings/exercise areas are always secure.

– Carrying out health checks on animals and reporting any concerns & feedback to the management team.

– Assisting with Behaviour Plans by observing behavioural changes & recording & reporting to the Senior animal handler.

– Assisting with carrying out on-going assessments for animals at the Centre under the direction of the senior animal handler & management team.

– Working alongside, supporting, and guiding Volunteers and Work Experience students

– Keeping animal records accurate in files & systems.

– Working to Centre protocols to maintain high standards of presentation throughout the centre.

– Being responsible for their own health and safety.

– To undertake any other duties required by the Management team

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in animal or other related qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years proven experience in the animal care industry
  • Excellent applied knowledge of canine/ feline behaviour
  • Excellent customer service skills

Shift pattern

  • 38 hours per week. Rotational basis to be discussed at interview
  • Including weekends/Bank holidays on rotation

Animal Handler/Social Mentor

A rare opportunity to join the St Giles Animal Welfare team in a brand new and exciting venture. At St Giles we are forever striving to improve animal welfare standards at the centre and within our community. Our community education project is a new development in recent months and is already expanding. We offer educational mentoring sessions to local schools and colleges to help educate on animal care & welfare best practice. We are in the process of setting up our very own forest school. Combining training/Animal Handling & running education sessions this rewarding role offers vast variety and value. Animal Handler/Dog Trainer Responsibilities;

Dog Training -providing one to one training sessions & building up/running and supporting with group sessions for external clients

Supporting the site management team with guidance & input, site standards, training & welfare

Training staff members in Animal behaviour & welfare

Motivating team members to promote high welfare standards

Monitoring best animal handling techniques

Ensuring enrichment needs are being met

Ensuring company behaviour & welfare policies are followed

Assisting the rescue team with Assessments

Socializing rescue dogs together

Assisting with volunteer training and requirements

Creating and carrying out training programmes

Offering support & behaviour advice to rescue clients

Transportation of rescue animals when required

Helping develop and maintain excellent working relationships with external agencies and other charities;

Representing the company at internal & external meetings when required

Updating social media

Education/Mentoring responsibilities;

Planning and preparing for learning sessions

Run Mentoring programmes in 5 week unit block dogs/cats or rolling

Delivering sessions to school & college students of ranging ages on animal husbandry and welfare.

Responsible for running sessions for groups of 6-10 students on average

Responsible for running one 2 one sessions

Gaging and adapting sessions dependant on student needs

Responsible for safeguarding students whilst on site – Both Human & animal safety is top priority

Keeping up excellent communication with Schools/Colleges via email/phone

Ensuring students and teachers/support workers are following Site safety protocols
Coordination and liaising with Centre & welfare seniors

Qualifications;
Successful DBC Check

1 year of experience in a teaching capacity

An animal behaviour or welfare qualification, or evidence of working at an equivalent level

Dog training qualification is desirable

Dog Warden and Cremation Assistant

An exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to work within a close knit team. A variable, interesting role working closely with the St Giles Vet practice and rescue team.

Duties to include;
– Recording & maintaining documents and reports
– Dealing with stray dogs – Transportation of seized dogs
– Enforcing dog related legislation
– Promoting responsible dog ownership
– Educating members of the public
– Liaising, Training & working alongside Local county council & other agencies

– Boarding collections AM and PM

– Collection of individual cremations from veterinary practices

– Organising cremations for any collections on the day

– Creating engraving for plaques and collar tags

– Ensuring all vets have adequate stock of plastic bags and literature

– Element of Evening checks

– Ensuring phones are answered promptly

– Ensuring excellent communication between team members

– Ensuring cremations are double checked before leaving site

– Ensuring a good standard of equipment is upheld

– Quality control – Ensuring all cremations are to a high standard before leaving site

– General cover throughout site

The candidate must have the following:

-Full clean UK driving licence
-Be physically fit – there will be a lot of heavy lifting, some driving etc
-Ability to work as part of a team but predominantly by themselves
-Candidate must be presentable and able to communicate well
-Available to be part of the ‘out of hours’ and ‘on call’ rota
-Mature enough to handle people’s pets in a caring, dignified and appropriate manner
-Have a good understanding of dog behaviour and be able to confidently handle dogs with a range of behavioural needs.
