UPDATE – The Great Snorer, Salem
Salem is currently in foster but is still looking for his perfect home. He has relaxed a little and is getting used to an indoor routine. Salem has purred a few times and has even vocalised. He will play with his favourite toy, but this is when he is alone in a room. With the exception of seeking food, Salem is, generally not willing to interact, though he is happy to sleep in his chosen places in his carers’ sitting room with them. He seems relaxed when they move or are around him though they are mindful of not moving too quickly near him, as this scares him. Salem is slowly improving and we are very pleased with his continued progress.
.They say every face tells a story and in Salem’s case this is definitely true. Coming to us as a stray he has clearly had a hard and painful life. Salem was very nervous when he first arrived having had entropion surgery and he spent most of his day hiding away in his bed only venturing out at night when it was quiet. He would often greet us with hisses and display an impressive set of vampiric-like fangs. Staff and trusted volunteers have worked hard with him, however, and his confidence is growing daily and he has gathered a firm fanbase. Salem will purr gently and even vocalise a little once he trusts you. He is still cautious around those he is unfamiliar with and we suspect this maybe because his eyesight is not as good as it should be. He often appears to use sound and scent more.
Due to his background Salem is best suited to a quiet adult only home with a garden as he will need a lot of time and patience to help him understand that there is nothing to fear and help him to develop to his full potential. Due to his poor eyesight it is possible he was subjected to attack and bullying previously so he will need to be the only pet in the home as he is sometimes worried by the proximity of his neighbours on the cattery.
