Complementary Therapies we offer

Pet Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a complementary therapy that should only be carried out by qualified professionals under veterinary referral. An animal “physio” can help restore normal function after an injury, illness or disability through educating owners on exercise programmes, mobility and manual therapies.

The most common areas in which a physiotherapist can assist are;

Veterinary Acupuncture

Veterinary Acupuncture can only be carried out by a veterinary surgeon who has completed a recognised course. It involves placing very fine needles into painful sites and traditional acupuncture points to help release tension and pain. We practice Western Medical Acupuncture which has been proven to be therapeutic for –

Manual therapy

Physical treatment 'hands on' technique used to treat musculoskeletal pain, disability and help increase joint mobility.

Soft tissue release techniques

Active assessment of soft tissue and massage techniques including stretching and release of soft tissue to improve flexibility and muscle tone.

Phototherary (light therapy)

Phototherapy works at a superficial level therefore is most effective on the skin. Blue phototherapy is very effective at prohibiting bacterial proliferation. Red phototherapy works to aid wound repair, encouraging epithelial growth and healthy granulation.

Pulsed Electro-Magnectic Field Therpary (PEMF)

Pulsing magnetic fields affect the function of the cell and help restore the normal balance in a damaged cell. Unbalanced cells result in inflammation, therefore pulsing magnetic fields provide an anti-inflammatory effect. This effect is one of the main benefits of this therapy as inflammation can be very damaging to the tissues. Inflammation also causes pain. This, in turn, can lead to restricted movement, disuse, muscle atrophy (wastage), compensatory injury and many more complications.

Therapeutic ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy is the use of sound waves to treat soft tissue medical conditions. Ultrasound can increase blood flow and can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation. Physiotherapists will often use ultrasound therapy to increase collagen synthesis and connective tissue healing.
